Kali is a mother who’s trying to make a living for her family. She happens to also be beautiful and sexy. So what does she do? She makes a fine living with her body and sexy mind making guys happy. This is the ageless profession that we all know about but think of it as taboo. Or maybe we just fantasize. James Gray’s character development of Kali is written in an excellent manner. In reading his novel, you can visualize Kali and all her escapades, Oops! Whatever you choose to call them. The ending is a surprise and the author keeps you guessing until you are there. I could not stop reading this novel. I had to see it to the end as soon as possible. Now that I’m done with the reading, I miss Kali, the character. Excellent writing, Mr. Gray! I can’t wait for your next book.
Kali is lovable and intriguing to read. I was fascinated with her many escapades, delightfully described without being too graphic. A real teaser, both Kali and Jim (the author) kept me turning pages into the night. She is drop-dead gorgeous, yet manages to balance her family (two boys and a mother-in-law) while keeping a heavy schedule of “appointments” for huge sums. What a complicated double life she leads! I loved this book and want more. When is the sequel coming out? What do I do for entertainment now, Jim?
A friend said read this book and I am glad I did. If I could give it 6 stars, I would. The characters were real. They coped with life and their own lives in a realistic world. The friend who recommended the book once described a Kali – like Latina as, “On a scale of 1 to 10, she was a 75!” As a Southern California guy I appreciated the accurate descriptions of Los Angeles and Catalina. The personalities were right on as well. Read this book!
Kali takes care of her children, mother-in-law and her clients. But, her greatest trick is her ability to balance all of her separate lives while breathing insight, intrigue and excitement into each unique adventure. Whether making school lunches for her kids or creating a sexy scenario for her clientele, she’s a fantasy role model for men and an inspiring liberating force for women.
Kali is such an interesting character because she’s always got an agenda however you can’t help but fall for her charm. Easy read and always keeps you wanting more! Definitely something you won’t put down until it’s finished!!

This is a book that you can’t put down. It did take me two sittings to finish it but there wasn’t much time between the readings. I was toally amazed at how the conversations flowed, one right after another, and they conveyed the story line effortlessly. And talk about fun. This kept a smile on my face through every line. I did find a problem though. I don’t know what happened to Kali when she made it big. It means I really want to read a sequel. All I can say now is MORE – MORE – MORE.
This is a fun, interesting book. I love all the different characters and how they interact. The subject matter isn’t one I know much about but it was well done and would have been good no matter what Kali did for a living.
“Kali Is Your Code Name” is a fun book to read. The author has created an engaging character who holds the reader’s interest with her experiences. As another reviewer pointed out, the storyline is sexy without being overly graphic — you’ll be stirred but not shaken!
James Francis Gray is fun to read. Never a dull moment in this girl’s hookups….. Kali will keep you hooked from beginning to end with her arousing escapades.

If you are a crime fanatic…Gumshoe is a great fix. The 1940s-set detective story takes you back to a time when murders were simpler and dolls were just another thing “to do “on Friday night. Gray’s characters are stereo-typic, fun and absurd. The plot thickens and thickens… My favorite passage is said by Johnny the protagonist detective, “I’m a ladies man, I can’t help myself. The women in my life, their aroma, softness and sensual offerings, send me into a euphoric state, a state I do not believe I could do without–condemn me, I don’t care–but do not sweet Lord, deprive me of these early pleasures.” Johnny goes on to run away from thugs and police, make love to his clients, and still manages to have it all.
A fun and funny adventure of a horny detective, his girlfriend and cop pal, Murphy, in a long past Los Angeles.
A fun book that kept you guessing until the end. I enjoyed it!
